Calling on Kimaiyo to style up

Calling on the Inspector General to style up

While we no doubt have a digital government, I must state that we do have an analogue police chief !
Kimaiyo must be having a hangover of the repressive and extremely brutal Moi state, when Kenya was officially a police state.
Immediately he took office, Kimaiyo officially “assumed power”

For starters,  during last year’s presidential campaigns he did what hasn’t been done before in this country  -  attempting to determine campaign content for politicians !   He purported to decide what was to be and what was not to be part of presidential aspirants campaign pledges and promises to the electorate !  .  Kimaiyo purported to order all presidential aspirants to exclude from their campaign speeches and pledges issues to do with land grabbing and landlessness, hence attempting to bar campaigners from even promising that if elected they would shun land grabbing.

After the elections Kimaiyo single handedly turned back the gains we have achieved over the years, he made it illegal for Kenyan citizens to assemble outside their own supreme court ! . In this day and age, he went on to make it an offence for citizens (numbering more than five) to discuss politics on the streets of Nairobi  (a ban on any or all public discussions of politics)  !!!!

Yet he wasn’t done,    during the Westgate attack when word went round that soldiers were allegedly looting the shops in the mall, and video clips of soldiers each carrying paper bags (as if they were just coming from shopping), Kimaiyo threatened journalists with arrest and warned them against broadcasting any content of the CCTV cameras inside the mall.

Just this month he banned junior police officers from addressing journalists and the media for that matter  !
The IG being as consistent as he is I can only imagine what he will next attempt to ban   maybe he should try banning the annual Transparency International  Corruption Index rankings !

Am thus convinced that our dear IG no doubt lives in the past and obviously misses the Nyayo era , but he has no choice but to style up, for we are in the digital era, with a digital team at the helm .
